Choosing an HDMI Distribution Amplifier
An HDMI distribution amplifier, also called an HDMI splitter, takes one HDMI source and sends the same signal to several displays at once. It is the right tool when every screen needs to show identical content, for example a menu board, a scoreboard feed, or a single presentation across a room. If you need different content on different screens, choose an HDMI matrix switcher instead.
Key Digital distribution amplifiers are full 4K/UHD 18Gbps with HDR and HDCP 2.2, and they manage EDID so every connected display negotiates a compatible resolution. The KD-DA1x4DC adds audio de-embedding and 4K to 1080p down-conversion on its outputs, so a 4K source can feed both 4K and 1080p displays from the same unit.
Choose the output count for your layout: the KD-DA1x4DC is a 1x4 splitter, and the KD-DA1x8 is a 1x8 splitter for larger arrays. For very large deployments you can cascade units or move to an HDMI matrix. An authorized Key Digital dealer can help you plan the distribution.
Frequently asked questions
What is an HDMI distribution amplifier?
An HDMI distribution amplifier, or HDMI splitter, sends one HDMI source to several displays at the same time, showing the same picture on every screen. Key Digital models do this at full 4K 18Gbps and manage EDID for reliable display compatibility.
What is the difference between a distribution amplifier, a switcher, and a matrix?
A distribution amplifier, also called a splitter, sends one source to many displays. A switcher sends many sources to one display. A matrix routes many sources to many displays independently. Pick based on your sources and displays.
Should I choose a 1x4 or a 1x8 distribution amplifier?
Match the output count to your displays. The KD-DA1x4DC feeds up to four displays, and the KD-DA1x8 feeds up to eight. For more displays you can cascade units or use an HDMI matrix.
Do Key Digital distribution amplifiers support 4K, and can they down-convert?
Yes. Key Digital distribution amplifiers are full 4K/UHD 18Gbps with HDR and HDCP 2.2. The KD-DA1x4DC also down-converts 4K to 1080p on its outputs, so a 4K source can feed both 4K and 1080p displays at once.
Do they support audio de-embedding?
Yes, on supported models. The KD-DA1x4DC de-embeds audio from the HDMI signal to a separate audio output, which is useful for feeding a sound system or amplifier.
