WiFi Direct vs LAN Connection mode — which to use?

  • WiFi Direct (default): devices connect straight to the KD-BYOD4K's built-in access point. Fastest to deploy; only provides internet to clients if a LAN cable from an internet-enabled network is attached.
  • LAN Connection: the unit is wired into your network and clients reach it over your existing WiFi, staying on the internet. WiFi Direct is disabled in this mode.

Setup

1. Cabling

WiFi Direct mode: connect HDMI to the display → (optional) connect a USB mouse/touchscreen for annotation → (optional) connect L/R audio out to your amplifier → connect power. LAN Connection mode: connect HDMI to the display → connect a network cable from your router/switch (optionally to LAN 2 for PoE) → optional USB and audio → power (skip if using PoE).

LAN port facts: LAN Port 1 = 100 Mbps, no PoE. LAN Port 2 = 1 Gbps, PoE-powered.
